But the best thing of all is seeing Annie. She looks terrific, is so much fun and is ridiculously appreciative of the level of luxury she is immersed in right now, (she is sleeping on the pull out sofa in our suite--she says it is way nicer than her flat and way, way nicer than the hostels she's been frequenting on her European boondoggle--good to know) Even Dave McKeon is mesmerized by the place. He is teeing it up tomorrow and let's hope it is everything he has ever dreamed of .
As promised, I posted my questions yesterday and I thought they were really good ones. Thanks, Judy for noting that, but obviously they weren't good enough to stop you all from answering them so quickly. I really thought that the Lake Forest/Carol Beach one would stump you all for a while. I just want to get it out there that I totally knew that whole Rockefeller Lake Forest, Carol Beach connection already. For some reason, this is the sort of junk that fills my brain. Jane, was I the one who told you about it, or did you know this one too? Oh, and for the St. Patrick answer, anything outside Ireland is good enough for me--though my sources say he was born in Britain. Any how, nice job, people. Here are the scores (and thanks again, John and Stacy, for keeping the tally board for me)
Judy:2 for being right, 3 for being first with the Holy and 1 for being third with the lowly and 10 for noting just how stellar those questions were and for all your kind wishes. Big Total: 16 for you
Jane: 2 for being right, 3 for being first with the Lowly. Welcome back to the blog. 5 points for you
John: 2 for being right, 2 for being second with the holy AND 10 for the best Edith Rockefeller McCormick answer and the hysterical monkey joke. your total: 14
Mrs.Sarge: 2 for being right, 2 for being second with the Holy and 1 for being third with the lowly. 5 big points for you.
Stacy: 2 for correctness, and 10 for the link, and all the Kenosha updates. thanks for keeping me current. 12 big points for you.
Irish Pete: 2 for being right. Where are the jokes, son? I hope you and your brothers do not have nana locked up in a closet somewhere.
Tricia: 2 for being right and 10 for saying I'm young. 12 points for you, too. and no, Big Dave did not go to LFHS. He went to Carmel in Indiana. Only his two younger siblings went to LF. Dave was already in college when his parents moved to Lake Forest-
Louis: 2 and congrats on the brilliant, beautiful future Mrs. Louis. If fabriclondon is as cool as you say, EC will be yours for the tip.
Sue Chi: 2 for being right and 10 for the recipe. Keep them coming. It will be a miracle if I can keep the no carb thing up for this week....I watched Annie eating a lemon tart tonight and kind of wanted to cry.
Jamarcus: 2 for being right and 10 EC for the full on biography of St. Patrick and for making it to the final 100--it's kind of like the final four, but about 25 times as easy.. Show PsychoB what you've got and go beat some body. 12 for you tonight.
I know I gave away 60 EC points tonight, but I am so super tired I just couldn't narrow it down. I haven't slept in a very long time and I am pretty much seeing double. Here are tonight's questions:
- What is my confirmation name? good luck with this one. Don't go all Capone on me, John. It is a holy question. I'm sure my kids don't even know it, and I know you can't google it, so now let's see who can find these answers without the aid of technology
- What is the name of the wife of the linguist (played by Jeffery Rush) in the King's Speech?
1. Elizabeth
ReplyDelete2. Elizabeth played by Helene Bonham Carter
1. Elizabeth
ReplyDelete2. Elizabeth played by Helene Bonham Carter
I have to be honest, I'm totally guessing on the confirmation name. I am just hoping that the answer is the same for both questions. And I am not willing to try to find the actual answer.
ReplyDeleteLaurie - You need to throw in a "BOOM" because you have found a question that cannot be Googled. Nicely played.
ReplyDelete1. It's either Oh Brilliant One or Elizabeth
ReplyDelete2. Elizabeth played by Helene Bonham Carter
Elizabeth
ReplyDeleteElizabeth Helene Bonham carter
John - where are you dear? BOOM! I beat you!
ReplyDeletewas your confirmation name Tess or Theresa or something like that? No one knows your confirmation name except for you. I talked to two reputable sources and they couldn't fill me in.
ReplyDelete1. It's either Oh Brilliant One or Elizabeth
ReplyDelete2. Elizabeth played by Helene Bonham Carter
Thanks Dear, I copied you. I'm working trying to earn you that Hermes Bracelet.
I have my peeps looking for that confirmation name. I have got to be first to answer a question once during this contest. You keep working on that bracelet dear.
ReplyDelete1) I am thinking it should have been Burberry Plaid, but Elizabeth sounds like a good choice. If it is Elizabeth, then we share confirmation names, because mine was Elizabeth as well.
ReplyDelete2) Elizabeth played by Helene Bonham Carter
An Irish Prayer For Your Confirmation
ReplyDeleteMay God give you...
For every storm, a rainbow,
For every tear, a smile,
For every care, a promise,
And a blessing in each trial.
For every problem life sends,
A faithful friend to share,
For every sigh, a sweet song,
And an answer for each prayer.
An Old Celtic Blessing
For Your Confirmation
May the blessing of light be on you;
light without and light within.
May the blessed sunlight shine on you
and warm your heart
till it glows like a great peat fire.
An Irish Blessing
For Your Confirmation
Christ be with me,
be after me,
be before me,
and be at my right and left hand.
May everything I do be for Christ.
An Irish Blessing
For Your Confirmation
May God grant you always
A sunbeam to warm you
A moonbeam to charm you
A sheltering angel so nothing can harm you
Laughter to cheer you
Faithful friends near you
And whenever you pray
Heaven to hear you.
And My Favorite:
Because you are Irish right to your core
You know being Catholic is not a chore
The choice you have made to make Christ your best friend
Will serve you this day until your life does end
So raise a big glass of whatever you like
and drink it down fast cuz there's no need for fright
Slàinte!
John are you drinking at work?
ReplyDeleteCan I request a divot from the Old Course? I have a few bare spots in the yard and saying that my lawn is from St. Andrew would be way cool. When Dave McKeon chunks a wedge shot from 50 yards out, before the caddy notices, have him grab the divot and put it in a sandwich zip lock. It needs to me a good deep divot so that is why I'm asking for a wedge shot. Please don't bother with a long iron shot. Add a few drops of water every day and keep it in the window of the hotel until you leave and I can plant it an cultivate it somewhere in my yard where my dogs will not piss on it. I'm counting on you!!!
ReplyDeleteNo I'm not drinking at work! Can I? Only reason I posted was to beat Louis. Can't have him getting in before me. Will be leaving soon. It's a LI night!!!
ReplyDeleteFrances
ReplyDelete1. Elizabeth
ReplyDelete2. Elizabeth played by Helene Bonham Carter
And Mrs. McKeon, if you really do end up going to fabric... please, please give us a full and detailed post about how awesome/ridiculous it was. Honestly, that was probably one of my craziest nights, ever... which is a little scary, but awesome nonetheless. Best of luck.
ReplyDeleteDelores
ReplyDeleteJuanita
Shi-thead?? Oh, I know, you picked the patron saint of television, Claire.
ReplyDeleteTrue story: I picked Elizabeth as my confirmation name because it was the name of my "mean Grandma" and I was hoping to win her over. Didn't work.
1) I'm going to take a shot at "Agnes"!
ReplyDeleteChris does that mean you called Aunt Sue and Wendy? If so, I guess I'll skip that. I'm seriously losing this race anyway.
ReplyDeleteBaby Luke has RSV and it sucking the life from all of us. Plus I am taking My Daisy troop to girl scout camp tomorrow. I'm seriously our of my mind or will be after this trip with a bunch of 5, 6 and 7 year olds.
So, I'm reading every day and racking up the page views whenever I think of it but this contest.....I'm out lol.
I'm going with Anne or possibly Mary, but Oh Holy One comes to mind or the ever popular choice of Help Me God To Be One Hell of a Soldier Because I'm Going to Have A Lot of Kids Someday! I couldn't think of a confirmation name so affirmed my own name -Susan Marie -true story-what a loser for not coming up with a name, it's amazing all our girls aren't named Sue!
ReplyDeleteElizabeth was the wife's name, played by Helene Bonham Carter.
Yes, Aunt Amy, that means I called Nana and Aunt Wendy haha.
ReplyDeleteMom I don't know you're confirmation name, but your middle name is Anne, your maiden name is Giunti, your favorite name is Jamarcus, your mom's name is Sue, your husband's name is David, your Dad's name is Robert, and your dog's name is Jack.
ReplyDeleteNext, you won the jr high science fair with some self-combustion project you copied out of a book and did by yourself. the judges were blown away. You also had a $5 bike you got back in ND days that you loved even though it was a POS. Another obscure fact is that you don't like ketchup. Another cool talent of yours is kicking and smacking aka laying down the law. A final obscure fact about you is that you were so tan back in your college days that big Dave mistook you for a "hot Indian (native american) girl." The rest is history. tale as old as time, beauty and the beast.
jpulera, if this thwarts everything you planned on doing, sorry, it's survival of the fittest.
ReplyDeleteLaurie...I texted Jamarcus and asked him ALL of the INFO about you that he just posted above.
ReplyDeleteJamarcus...I wasn't going to post this info...I wanted it for my own investigation!!! You rat!! I'll never trust you again...I might have to turn to Louis!

No we don't have nana locked up but as soon as she got to the house she didn't hesitate to start a thrilling conversation with me about all her new ailments, the main one being her dog was stronger than her so she hurt her face or something- I don't know. Honestly I wasn't paying attention, I would have rather had posey tell me jokes while I watched paint dry on a wall than listen to what she had to say. But I tried my best to listen, all I got out of it was that she should kill that dog or something because all it does is hurt her. I bet that's why she named him punch. Either that or she has to get stronger, but I think that's a little unrealistic because, in my mind, once you are physically unable to ride a tricycle- not even a bicycle- I think your strength gaining days are over. Whatever, she did the laundry and I wouldn't have been able to do that so there's one good thing.
ReplyDeleteThis is a banner day for us all: First, Dave McKeon got himself out on the Old Course this morning which is a bloody miracle. It really is awesome. They only let you on by "ballot" which means he had to go genuflect to the head starter Malcolm at 6am and it has appeared to work. Hooray for Dave. Second, I beleive I have stumped you all with the confirmation name. My suggestion: ask Posey. She is obviously the only one who listens to my stories (though it may be in one of those lists posted by John--haven't gotten through all of those names bt fyi--it's not Cheyenne or Brooklyn). I am so disappointed in Wendy--how does she not know my confirmation name? Hers is Elizabeth, Julie's was Rose, Amy's was Eileen (sorry about that one, Amy) and Matt's was Thomas. Don't you remember that mom made us all take the name or some version of the name of our sponsor??
ReplyDeleteAND I am also pointing out that none of you read the Lowly question correctly. I asked for the name of the linguists wife, not the King's wife--even jetlagged into a stupor I'm not going to ask that easy of a question. So, as of this minute, no one has any points. Except Amy will be getting salvation points for taking a Brownie Troop any where. Ouch
Irish Pete, be nice to Nana--bTw I don't listen to the "health updates" either, but that dog has got to go...
I'll check in later--am off for a run along the hallowed streets of St. Andrews stomping grounds of the young William and Kate. And then I am heading to a Big, English breakfast, followed quickly by high tea...wish you were here...
Myrtle - BOOM!
ReplyDeletePlayed by Jennifer Ehle - BOOM BOOM!
ReplyDeleteConfirmation name - Alice? I'm guessing your sponsor was a tad bit older than you hence the outdated name? I will find out!

Myrtle - Ditto BOOM!
ReplyDeleteHere's a slice of golf history you might enjoy.
ReplyDeleteWhy do full-length golf courses have 18 holes, and not 20, 10 or an even dozen?
During a discussion among the membership board at St. Andrews Golf Club in 1858, one of the members pointed out that it takes exactly 18 holes to polish off a fifth of Scotch. By limiting himself to only one shot of Scotch per hole, the Scot figured a round of golf was finished when the Scotch ran out....
Figures it had to do with drinking! Now I know why I love the game soooo much.

ReplyDelete2) Myrtle Logue - played by Jennifer Ehle. so much for cheating and going with the constants. That will teach me.
John, you crack me up. Way to cover all the bases and just list 1001 names for confirmation.
ReplyDeleteLaurie, I would like to see if you save room in your suitcase for John's divot instead of some designer bag.
Alexandra
ReplyDeleteA St. Andrew's divot in a suitcase - are you crazy? Book a seat for that bad boy. It's going to become a part of Kenosha history.
I still think my original answer of "Oh Brilliant One" is correct & possibly the best suck up answer for this holy question.
ReplyDeleteAlexandra
ReplyDeleteMrs. Sarge, I've already created the planting area in a prime location on the side of my house. Not too much sun, little foot traffic, a 4" X 4" pentagon shaped patch of fresh Rick's Mix from Anton's carefully mixed into the native soil of the Forest Park community. The area is protected by fencing I stole from the Fischer Price Farm Set we were saving for our grand kids to play with. Each section has been lovingly adorned with a Souvenir ball marker from one of the five courses that make up the St. Andrews Golf Club, The Old Course, The New Course, Jubilee, Eden and Strathtyrum. Later today I will be visiting Stein Garden and Gifts to purchase a pruning scissor to properly maintain the patch and encourage it's growth. Viewing of the patch will be appointment only and all Squirrels caught within 50 yards of said patch will be shot on site. This is serious shit as my family can attest to the fact that I am a Squirrel lover. The majesty of St. Andrews trumps all. In closing, remember that if profanity had an influence on the flight of the ball, the game of golf would be played far better than it is.
ReplyDeleteSorry, everyone. I tried to beat Chris to the punch when I found out our sister, Amy , (not to be confused with our cousin-in-law, Amy)reached him and gave him the info, but I couldn't make the comment thing work. Not that I could recall Laurie's comfirmation name either. Everyone knows I have no memory at all and depend on Laurie and Amy for any facts regarding my own History. or anybody else's. Laurie, I can't believe you would think that I would know this. I can't even remember any of my own kids' Confirmation names, except for Grace's because she made her confirmation last Friday. Give me another week and I will have no idea. Surprisingly, enough, I remember the circumstances of my own Confirmation. Probably, because the Bishop was allowed to slap you and it made the sacrament more memorable. Wish they still did this. Anyway, I chose Elizabeth after my favorite 2nd grade teacher, Sr. Ann Elizabeth. She was young and pretty and very sweet, and never threw a single eraser. She did ,however contract hepatitis and had to leave to return to Arizona to convalesce. I was devastated and she kept in contact with me as a penpal. I also recall that she later left the convent (No big surprise as she was young and pretty and sweet) and took back her original name of Barbara Gust. How I recall this I have no idea. Obviously,I must have really worshipped her. Barbara, if you are reading this Blog, thanks for being responsible for my becoming a teacher.
ReplyDeleteSo, I was very surprised to find out from my sister, Amy, that Laurie, also took her name from her favorite teacher, Miss Alexander (not an ex-nun though). Unfortunately for my sister Amy and my brother Matthew, they were not allowed by our mother to go 'off the board' in their choice of sponsors and were ordered to use our 'adoptive' aunt and uncle, Eileen and Tom and their respective names. Laurie and I must have really put up good arguments in our favor. Our mother is so traditional, she gave all the Giunti girls the same middle name of Ann (no final 'e' , Chris) because she couldn't be bothered coming up with new middle names. Again, sorry I couldn't get this out there before that damn Chris.
A notice to all, Alexandra was in the second list of names I posted so BOOM! Beat your ass Jamarcus!
ReplyDeleteJohn, sign me up for the divot viewing. Can't wait to see you put that green thumb to work. You are right, though, I did catch that in your all encompassing list, Alexandra was there. Lucky you! Boom Boom!
ReplyDeleteMyrtle
ReplyDeleteI think you should keep the viewing true to St. Andrews form - visitation to the divot by ballot only. If everyone just comes willy nilly we'd have to deal with the paparazzi on a constant basis - I can't look good 24/7 while they're snooping around my yard and such. I'm way too busy with the blog.
ReplyDeletePosey says Alexandra
ReplyDeleteOK, admit that you all loved that confirmation name question-and the little bit of Giunti history that Wendy shared. John, you totally did have Alexandra in list number two. Nice guess. Not only did I pick that name after my favorite second grade teacher Miss Alexander, who was btw an ex nun--she was the total best teacher ever--introduced me to some of the best children's books and literature ever AND gave me rides home all the time--total luxury as we were total walkers.
ReplyDeleteRight now, I am sitting in the beautifully paneled library in the Old Course hotel drinking a champagne cocktail, feeling like some one in a Jane Austen novel. This whole day has been incredible. I just want to note that Dave McKeon shot an 84 today on the Old Course, with a booming drive on 17 (the Road Hole) that landed right in the middle of the fairway. All the lads in the JIgger Inn (super famous pub in the hotel right on the 17th hole) cheered his nice shot. Dave said the Old Course, while super historic, is no where near as pretty or well maintained as many good US courses, but still, so amazing to play. We will wait for dark, John and then try to sneak out and get you a little piece of the Old Course.
Look for tonight's questions around 4ish your time. We are heading out to dinner and Dave McKeon is going BACK to the JIgger Inn for his 10th beer (Tennant ) since he came off the 18th. Good thing we walk everywhere.
I am L'ing MAO about the Jigger Inn. Our friends didn't want to use the anatomical word for their son's little private part so they called it his jigger. Very sophmorish, I know, but Jigger Inn has a whole new bunch of tasteless possibilities.
ReplyDeleteAnd while your posts from Scotland are super interesting, I thought you would take your Saturday off like you did when you were here in America. After 10 beers, isn't Dave looking for someplace to put his Jigger Inn?
1. Alexandra
ReplyDelete2. Myrtle played by Jennifer Ehle
Okay, I'm feeling like I should apologize for the Jigger Inn... at least to Annie. Of course I realize she's on the sleeper sofa... Sometimes you walk a fine line trying to be funny, and sometimes you step over a little.
ReplyDeleteWhoops. (Imagine an emoticon here with the little smiley face looking up in the air like it's saying, "Whoops".)
stacy, do not think twice about your jigger comment...and don't worry. As soon as we get to London, tomorrow night, Anne is exiled back to her crappy flat. Remember, the vacation rule....(if you don't know what that is, ask Tina Burke) AND you are so right...no questions until tomorrow night. It's Saturday night--we all need the night off after that last set of questions. Look for tomorrow's questions fairly early. This time difference has me confused...and I don't want to mess up this high precision system I have going.
ReplyDelete1) Alexandra
ReplyDelete2) Myrtle played by Jennifer Ehle
1) Alexandra for the confirmation name.
ReplyDelete2) Myrtle Logue - played by Jennifer Ehle.
I believe I referred to him as a dumb f*ck, which in all fairness he is. As if "upgrading" from a ring-type bell to a squeeze-type bell is going to make up for his dumb f*cking-ness, I think not. Really, what parent wants a bell for their kid's bike anyway? "Hey Andrew, can squeeze that f*cking bell for a millionth time today please? You can? Great, thank you. Duh, shidiot. Amy - our day wasn't as bad as yours with RSV & Brownie stuff to do. You are a saint. Hope the little guy is well & everyone please forgive my profanity.
ReplyDelete1)I'm going with Rose just because of Posey
ReplyDelete2)Elizabeth
Sorry I missed yesterday but thank you Laurie for the support.Yesterday we moved everything and today was a tough one.
As I said before John and Tricia my heart goes out to you. Definately feel your pain. SOmetime we'll have to bitch and moan over a bottle of wine or 10. Maybe a bottle of 151 might be better. Just kidding to all those collective gasps I am hearing!!!!!!!!
Have you had an opportunity to drive on the opposite side of the road yet Laurie??? My best moment ever Chuck white knuckling it in the passengers seat while I was driving almost hit a buch of cattle crossing the road as I came cruising around a bend!!!! I shoudve been a race car driver!!!! Try to go to Stratford upon Avon for some great Shakespeare!!!
Ok just in from my #1 son- not Rose althoughthat would have been lovely ALEXANDRIA it is?!
Patron Saint: Defender of Humanity
ReplyDeleteWhy she is venerated by the Holy Roman Catholic Church:
St. Alexandra was part of 300 Christian women on a mission of peace to Rome. During this time, Christian persecution was rampant under Emperor Diocletian, and every one of the women were Martyred by being burned alive.
It all makes sense now!!!!!!! Although I still love Rose!!!!
Just so you know Brenna is Kim Pechous. I am going under an alias while in minnesota(long story, just one of the many skeletons in my closet)!!!!
ReplyDeleteTOLD YOU SCOTLAND IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have you been blest with the haunting tune of the bagpipes?! One of my favorite bits of trivia Scotlands dead would be" Piped Home" long ago I just think that is so cool. I want to be "piped home" when its my time!
ReplyDeleteBRENNA/AKA KIM
2. Myrtle played by Jennifer Ehle
ReplyDeleteKim, I like the alias. Seems sort of seductive and mysterious... fits you to a tee!
ReplyDeleteBTW.. Tricia, any mom who looks so good bringing her kids to the doctor will have no problem looking goood every day. You will do fine with the paparazzi!
