Anyhow, very quick post, because we have got to run. Stacy, John and Jamarcus. I am leaving all scoring in your very capable hands. I got nothing, and you all lost me after google..Jamarcus, since you do not have to live under the reign on Nana for this next week, make this link thing happen, please.
Sorry about the cardis/capris confusion---it was kind of a quick flash up there and I was only partially paying attention. I really don't know how you all find every single flipping answer so quickly...magic, voodoo, who knows? But, here are the scores in a very quick format: (remember, I've got 50 EC points to give away)
John/Capone: 2 for being right, 6 for being first with both the holy and the lowly, and 10 EC points for figuring out that link thing...(and for making me laugh with the Capone---love the competitive spirit) your big ass total: 18 If you win this thing, you better be getting that bracelet for your lovely wife!
Jamarcus: 2 for being right, 4 for being second with both=6 . You figure out this link thing and big EC will come your way
Judy: 2 for being right and 1 for being third with the holy=3
Stacy: 2 for being right and 10 EC for being smart. Thanks for keeping score and doing the big sheet (you do realize that I cannot continue to give you and John points for this don't you? Take them while you can)=12
Sue: 2 for being right--C'mon work for that Extra credit--give me some recipes that don't involve carbs. I am desperate...Stacy, I hate this whole no carb thing, too. I fear that as soon as I get into Great Britian I will eat an entire shepherd's pie and some chips...it could happen
Kim: 2 points for correctness and a ton of love from me that is worth way more than extra credit. Hang in there. I'm thinking of you, and I will work on that whole scotsman in the kilt thing...hope he doesn't weigh over 50 pounds, Dave is already pretty pissed about the phone thing...
Louis: 2 for being right, and stop your pouting, I'm giving you 10 EC points because I forgot to post your score. Tell Jamarcus to get off of gilt.com and figure out this link and you can see where you stand, If I recall, it wasn't any great shakes...sorry, tonights points should help: your total: 12
Tricia: 2 for being right and 10 EC points your comments to Irish Pete--made me laugh: total 12
Mrs. Sarge: 2 for being right and congrats on getting some love from the physicians. Hope it was something great. You deserve it
Irish Pete: 2 for being right with the answers and 10 EC points for being right about so many other things...like the bed time and the swear words, and the haircuts, and the cranberry no carb vodka mixture, which I assume you only heard was mediocre and did not try it for yourself...Tell your brother Jamarcus to stop making up lengthy stories about random singers and get this link, spread sheet thing done for me, and he too can get some major EC...
Now, even with an international road trip and an irate husband looming, I am still posting up your questions for the day--that is how devoted I am to you all...***This just in: Dave McKeon gave up on the phone thing...you think the profanity is flying around the golf course, you should be in my kitchen right now..We aren't able to check in online for this flight and pick our seats (stupid American Airlines pretending to be British Airways) and Dave is freaking out because if we don't leave this second he may not get an aisle seat...yep, that's my fault too.
Here are tonight's questions:
- Where in Ireland was St. Patrick born?
- There is an old connection between the Carol Beach neighborhood in Pleasant Prairie where Dave McKeon lives now and the Villa Turicum neighborhood in Lake Forest where he lived when he was a young pup. What is that connection? (and it has nothing to do with the McKeons) I hope this takes some of you a little time...
Britain
ReplyDeleteEdith Rockefeller McCormick of Chicago, Illinois bought a ton of land in Pleasant Prairie for her summer home.
ReplyDeleteApostle of Ireland, born at Kilpatrick, near Dumbarton, in Scotland
Jane
Edith must also have lived in Lake Forest.
ReplyDeletePatrick was in fact born in south-western England, in Somerset, at or near the village of Banwell, five miles east of Weston-super-Mare.
ReplyDeleteMy quick read caused my error....
ReplyDeletePatrick was born around 385 in Scotland, probably Kilpatrick.
1) St. Patrick was born in Roman Britain at Banna Venta Berniae
ReplyDelete2) I am going to go with Jane on #2 and trust that she is not leading us astray. Edith Rockefeller McCormick of Chicago, IL bought a ton of land in Pleasant Prairie for her summer home. Edith must also have lived in Lake Forest.

ReplyDeleteVilla Turicum was the seldom used country home of Edith Rockefeller McCormick. After her divorce with her settlement money she purchased the land which is now Carol Beach. She had grand plans for an exclusive community but instead it has become the home for the McKeon clan.

ReplyDeleteI'm Italian and we never claimed that St. Patrick was born in Italy. The more I read, the more I realize I don't care. Nonetheless, the French appear to claim he was born in Gaul (shocking that the French want to claim something that is not even FRENCH!), but it appears others claim he was born in Kilpatrick near Dumbarton, Scotland in the year 387.
ReplyDeleteNo good eats in Ireland or Great Britain....give me an Italian saint....I probably have a photo of his birthplace somewhere in my house!

It's uncertain exactly where he was born, but it is believed to have been in western England or southern Scotland - possibly the village of Bannavem Taberniae or Kilpatrick, near Dumbarton.
ReplyDeleteEdith Rockefeller McCormick lived in the estate in Villa Turicum and later bought the Carol Beach area with her windfall divorce settlement.
Laurie, buy a new watch when you're in London.

Hey Laurie - here's one for you: What place in Kenosha used to house a community of monks and what is that community of monks called?
ReplyDelete1) St. Patrick he was born in Kilpatrick near Dumbarton, Scotland in the year 387.
ReplyDelete2) Edith Rockefeller McCormick lived in the estate in Villa Turicum and later bought the Carol Beach area with her windfall divorce settlement.
And I appreciate the shoutout and EC! It's about gd time... I'm struggling in the funny/extra credit department for some reason, it's no bueno. But really, please go to fabriclondon when you're there. Again, you will thank me after, just stay away from the beds. Nothing good can come from beds in a club (trust me).
ReplyDeleteI also finally got Jamarcus McD's yesterday, I am sorry I could no longer support the cause against clogged arteries... I tried though Mrs. McKeon. I may try and switch up his burger and give him a vegan or something, I'll keep you posted.
Also, I f*cking love Gilt... so, so much. I am forever indebted to your wonderful household for introducing me to it. This guy right here got a Michael Kors in the mail yesterday, so crucial.
Also, this just in courtesy of the wonderful Twitter-sphere, the wonderful wifey got a 100% on her Finance test. How absurd is that, I clearly have great taste. I, unfortunately, only managed a 90%... it's cool though, I can be a trophy-husband. My ego can handle it.
ReplyDeleteDid big Dave go to LFHS? You know he's older than me :) He's not a young'n like us Laurie.
ReplyDelete1.Patrick was born in Roman Britain at Banna Venta Berniae, a location otherwise unknown.[17][18] Calpornius, his father, was a deacon, his grandfather Potitus, a priest. When he was about sixteen, he was captured and carried off as a slave to Ireland.[19] Patrick worked as a herdsman, remaining a captive for six years. He writes that his faith grew in captivity, and that he prayed daily.[20] After six years he heard a voice telling him that he would soon go home, and then that his ship was ready. Fleeing his master, he travelled to a port, two hundred miles away he says,[21] where he found a ship and, after various adventures, returned home to his family, now in his early twenties.[22]
ReplyDeletePatrick recounts that he had a vision a few years after returning home:
I saw a man coming, as it were from Ireland. His name was Victoricus, and he carried many letters, and he gave me one of them. I read the heading: "The Voice of the Irish". As I began the letter, I imagined in that moment that I heard the voice of those very people who were near the wood of Foclut, which is beside the western sea—and they cried out, as with one voice: "We appeal to you, holy servant boy, to come and walk among us.

FYI: Word must have spread about our bookstore dominance bc the team we were supposed to play today pussied out. So we advanced to the next round by forfeit, making us a top 100 team in the world's biggest 5v5 tourney. not too shabby.

In honor of you being in Bloody ol' England
ReplyDeleteCharles Dickens walks into a bar and orders a martini. The bartender asks, "Olive or twist?"
A British woman gets on a bus with her baby. The driver says: "That's the ugliest baby I've ever seen. Ugh!" The woman goes to the rear of the bus and sits down, fuming. She says to the bloke next to her: "The driver just insulted me!" The bloke replies: "You go right up there and tell him what for - go ahead, I'll hold the monkey for you".
ReplyDeleteJohn...monkey joke...hilariuous!
